PERU MISSION REPORT
Thirteen members of West Side Baptist church traveled to Iquitos, Peru to work in villages on the Amazon River. Our base camp (Huanta) was five and a half hours from Iquitos by boat. Our only means of travel was by boat and we worked in the villages of Nuevo San Juan, Miraflores, San Pedro, Santa Oroza, Pobre Alegre and La Libertad. Some of the villages had never heard of Christ Jesus and one village thought all white people were evil. Several villages were receptive to us and the word of God. God used us through translators to open doors for our missionaries in these areas. There is much spiritual darkness in some of the villages and our missionaries need our prayers for the work ahead of them. Thank you for your prayers, cards and support before and during our mission trip. We look forward to giving our full report Sunday, July 11th in the morning worship service.
Frank Strange, Mission Team Leader
NORTH AMERICAN MISSION TRIP
Greenville, SC
July 17-24
Please pray for this ministry outreach. Our missions team needs the prayers and encouragement of each member of West Side. Pray that souls will be added to God’s Kingdom as our team shares Christ’s love with others. Contact Frank Strange if you would like more information.

Youth Ministry
YOUTH YARNS
I hope your homework is all done and your reports are on hold. We will have a fun summer in which we have several activities planned. Just because it is summer, doesn’t mean God takes a vacation! As always we will be having our Sunday and Wednesday night Bible studies. Our first youth event will be June 26 from 4:00-8:00 at the pastor’s house. (Is he crazy letting those kids come to his house?) Bring your modest swimsuit, Bible and your friends and enjoy a day of Bible and fun. Then on July 10th we will have “Hot Summer Fun,” (otherwise called Pastor’s revenge). You truly don’t want to miss this. If you have ever wanted to hit Brandon with an egg this just may be the day. The event will go from 1-4 and is great fun with more people. So bring a friend and wear a plain white t-shirt and swimsuit underneath and have fun getting cooled off. Then in August we have two events planned. First, is the youth beach trip on Aug. 6-7. The second is the youth Creation Camp from Aug. 9-13. The cost for the camp is $40 and includes all field trips, lunch and snacks. So sign up, talk it up, and live it up this summer the fun Christian way!!

There is one hymn that is sung more often than any other while the preacher is inviting people to come forward, it is “Just As I Am.” No doubt more people have accepted Christ as Savior under the sounds of this old hymn than any other gospel song. Charlotte Elliott, who wrote that song, was an invalid living in England. One day a preacher brought the matter of salvation to her attention. He asked her whether she had ever accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Like many, Charlotte resented the question and quickly changed the subject. But, it set her to thinking.
A few days later the preacher stopped by again. She said, “You spoke of coming to Jesus, but I am not fit to come.” He replied, “Come just as you are.” She did so; and later, in her room, she wrote the lines of her hymn. One verse says:
Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me.
And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come!
Some time afterward she told of her experience to a friend and told him what she had written. Fortunately the lines got into print and were set to a tune composed by a New Englander, William B. Bradbury. Today the hymn is translated into many different languages, and people of all ages, color, nationalities, and places in life have knelt before God and made it their prayer.
The Bible clearly states that, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” (Rom. 5:8-9).
Many hesitate to come as they are. They think they’re not fit to come. They think they are not good enough, having too many bad habits, or wrongs that need to be corrected first. That’s like a person saying that they must get better before they go to the hospital. I am glad that the Bible says, “While we were yet sinners…” Never mind your bad habits or wrongs. God will help you solve those problems later and it will be easier than you expect, for you will be a new person in Christ once you are saved. See II Corinthians 5:17. Don’t delay; you need not wait another minute, as the hymn says:
Just as I am, and waiting not,
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God I come!
May you come to God and may He richly bless you.

Girls in Action Project
The Girls in Action will be collecting back packs and small travel items for children for the Shepherd’s Inn Home in Tennessee. Items needed include small stuffed animals, books, crayons, coloring books,
note pads, pencils, and small toys. Toys from Kids meals will also work great. Our Mission Team worked at Shepherd’s Inn, a shelter for battered women and children, during our Mission Trip to Tennessee during the summer. Please place items in the green box located outside the Church Office.
If you have any questions please contact Ginny Shull at 755-6505.

Our RA Boys are shining shoes as a fundraiser to help them go to camp this summer. Need a good “spit shine” on that ole pair of shoes? Let them “fix ‘em up” for you and make them Sunday best! See Dalton Shull, Brian Nanney or Frank Strange to put you in contact with their shoe shiners! Thanks for your help!

Our beloved WMU Leader Joan Baggott put up a valiant fight against the ravenous cancer that began in August ‘08 but she entered Heaven’s Gates triumphantly on May 14. We will all miss her dearly and our hearts go out to her family. Her legacy for love of Missions will continue as we receive donations for “Joan’s Well” project- $4,064 RTD.
Also, magnetic gas-cap covers are available for purchase at $5/ea. or just make a memorial donation towards this project in her memory. We, again, extend our condolences and sympathy to her family as we all will miss our dear friend.
